Harbormaster Norm Regis is Seward City Council’s top choice as interim city manager when Jeff Bridges leaves the role on March 17.
At Monday night’s work session, the council chose Regis from a short list offered by Bridges.
Bridges started as interim city manager in Sept. 2019. His six month contract allowed for Bridges to apply for the permanent position, but he will be moving back to the East Coast to work and be closer to family.
The council has formed a negotiation team to work with Regis, while at the same time searching for a permanent person to fill the role. The council is working with a consulting firm, GovHR, to find the next city manager.
If he steps into the role of interim city manager, Regis won’t be leaving the harbor out to dry. Deputy Harbormaster Matt Chase is “very capable” Bridges said during the council work session. “This would also be an opportunity to evaluate Mr. Chases’ abilities.”
